Central Michigan University Adds ASCD Material to Teacher Leadership Program

Central Michigan University has selected ASCD to provide professional development content for the university's new Master of Arts in Teacher Leadership program. The degree program, which incorporates these new materials, begins in January 2012.

ASCD, formerly the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing best practices and policies for the success of all teachers. It has 160,000 members in 148 countries, including professional educators from all levels and subject areas, superintendents, supervisors, principals, teachers, professors of education, and school board members.

The master's degree program, which requires 33 credits, is offered online, in person (in select locations in Georgia), or a combination of both, is intended for educators who are seeking professional development opportunities as they continue teaching.

"The professional development materials produced by ASCD complement the online leadership curriculum we have designed for this degree and bring a variety of content from renowned experts in the fields of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and leadership," said Dr. Betty Kirby, education leadership department chairwoman at CMU.

Resources are available from ASCD on 21st century skills, differentiated instruction, response to intervention, English language learners, building academic vocabulary, and understanding by design.
