U Cincinnati Expands Online Programs with Blackboard

The University of Cincinnati has deployed content management system Blackboard 9.0 for its new lineup of online certificate programs.

In addition, it is using a pair of F5 BIG-IP 3400 load balancers, eight Citrix XenServer VM application servers with 12GB RAM, and a four-node Oracle RAC cluster. Each node is a Dell R710 server with 100GB RAM. An EMC Symmetrix SAN is being used for databases, and EMC NS-480 SAN for course materials.

The Ohio school has expanded its distance education programs in the areas of education, criminal justice, and human services, beginning with this fall semester. According to the university, enrollment is up 9.8 percent, at 3,915 enrollees.

The College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services has launched new online certification programs for up-and-coming teachers. Courses range from gaining skills to cope with school bullying to helping students trying to learn English as a second language.

The Carl H. Lindner College of Business has started an online graduate certificate in marketing. Students have their track of study choice: practice building, corporate marketing, creative services, or technical sales.

In addition, over the summer, the College of Medicine, College of Allied Health Sciences, and Carl H. Lindner College of Business launched a new online Master of Health Administration program.

The University of Cincinnati has more than 41,000 students, 16,000 employees, and an annual budget of more than $1 billion.
