Brigham Young University Releases Mobile App for Campus Services
The Office of Information Technology at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT, has deployed a free app for students, faculty, and staff. It was developed in house.
Features of the app include:
- An interactive map that lets users search for specific campus services, and helps them locate points on campus;
- Link to the university, student newspaper, and library homepages, as well as byucougars.com, the university's athletics Web site;
- A business card feature that allows users to edit contact information shared with the university community by QR code;
- A BYU ID card feature that shows the user's student ID card on the screen;
- Registration of mobile devices to automatically link to the university's wireless network;
- Contact information to reserve rooms at the university;
- The campus news feed;
- Student, faculty, and staff directory; and
- Speech Finder, which allows users to search by speaker, topic, media type, and year.
To run the app, users need to use an iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, or a device running Android 2.2 and up.
Brigham Young University, run by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has approximately 34,000 enrolled students.
