BenQ Bulbless Handheld Projector Offers WXGA Resolution

BenQ has rolled out a DLP-based handheld projector that displays HD in small, low-light venues without the use of a traditional bulb.

The projector, the Joybee GP2, uses an LED light source and offers a native resolution of 1,280 x 800 (WXGA), a brightness of 200 lumens, and a contrast ratio of 2,400:1.

It also offers 2 GB of internal memory and supports displaying videos, images, PDF files, Microsoft Excel documents, Microsoft Word documents, and PowerPoint presentations without a computer or USB dongle.

Additional features include:

  • Automatic vertical keystone correction of ±40 degrees;
  • Throw ratio of 1.3-to-1;
  • SD card slot that supports an additional 16 GB of memory;
  • An estimated LED life of 20,000 hours;
  • An economy mode that increases LED life up to 30,000 hours;
  • A maximum projected image size of 160 inches (diagonal);
  • Touch-sensitive control panel;
  • A built in iPhone/iPod dock;
  • Instant power on/off; and
  • Two 2-watt speakers.

The projector weighs 1.23 pounds and measures 2.06" (h) x 5.52" (w) x 5.11" (d).

AV inputs include HDMI, PDMI (CEA 30-pin), and a stereo minijack.  AV outputs and peripheral ports include a stereo minijack and USB.

A detachable battery that can run the projector at 100 lumens of brightness for up to three hours is available as an optional accessory.

The Joybee GP2 is covered by a one-year warranty and currently ships for $599.
