Moore College To Distribute iPads to New BFA Students

A Pennsylvania arts college, in partnership with Apple, will deploy free iPads to new Bachelor of Fine Arts students beginning with the fall semester.

Those students at Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia will receive the devices pre-loaded with visual arts- and design-related apps.

"Faculty at Moore are committed to educating students for contemporary careers in art and design," said Academic Dean Dona Lantz. "The iPad 2 will be a pivotal learning tool in the new Foundation curriculum where the integration of digital media and tools will be taught and used in tandem with traditional drawing and design media."

Last month, Apple made a big push for the use of iPads in the classroom when it announced the release of iBooks2, iAuthor, and the iTunes U app at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.

"We are proud to be the first art and design college to partner with Apple to provide iPad devices to all new BFA students," said Moore President Happy Craven Fernandez. "This is an exciting opportunity to increase interactivity within the classroom and Moore community.

Moore College of Art & Design, an all-women school that has enrollment of approximately 500, offers 10 BFA programs: textile design, interior design, photography and digital arts, graphic design, illustration, fashion design, fine arts, curatorial studies, art education, and art history.

The proposed legislation, known as the "California Digital Content Provenance Standards" (AB 3211), aims to ensure transparency in digital media by identifying content created through artificial intelligence. This requirement would apply to a broad range of AI-generated material, from harmless memes to deepfakes that could be used to spread misinformation about political candidates.
