Splashtop Releases Remote Desktop Client for Android Tablets

In response to demand from customers, Splashtop has announced that its remote desktop software, Splashtop 2, is now available for Android tablets running Android 3.1 or newer.

Splashtop 2 HD for Android enables tablet users to remotely access Windows PCs and Macs to run applications, view and edit files, watch HD videos, and play graphic-intensive games. It supports high definition (HD) video and is designed for 7- or 10-inch screens with a resolution of 1280 x 800, 30 frames per second of streaming video, and less than 30-millisecond latency.

Splashtop has also built a proprietary bridging cloud infrastructure, which is a global network of high performance clusters and secure Internet relay servers to support remote desktop connections around the world.

Remote desktop connections with Splashtop require only a username and password, without configuring routers or firewalls, or manually entering IP addresses or security codes. Users connect their Android tablets with their Windows or Mac computers through the proprietary bridging network, which uses industry-standard encryption technology for security.

Key features of Splashtop 2 HD for Android include:

  • Support for pinch and zoom;
  • Hardware-specific platform acceleration;
  • Wake-on-LAN; and
  • Support for 3G and 4G network connections.

Users can also add the Anywhere Access Pack, which supports remote desktop connections over the Internet, rather than 3G or 4G networks.

Splashtop 2 HD for Android is available through Google Play. It will be free of charge for a limited time, after which it will have a list price of $9.99 and includes a license to access up to two computers. Users must download and install the free Splashtop Streamer software onto the Windows or Mac computer before they can access it through Splashtop 2 HD. The Anywhere Access Pack is available for $0.99 per month or $9.99 per year.
