AcademicPub Adds Multimedia Links, QR Codes
Professors can now add multimedia content to e-books from AcademicPub, provider of custom print and digital course materials for colleges and universities. The announcement was made at Educause 2012 in Denver, CO, and the new feature will be ready in time for the spring semester.
The AcademicPub platform features a searchable online library that includes millions of textbook chapters, articles, research, and case studies from more than 150 publishers in 70-plus areas. Publishing partners include Cambridge University Press, Elsevier, and the American Institute of Physics.
Books are available in print or e-book format. AcademicPub also allows users to insert copyright-cleared online content to be included in the e-books and includes a recommendation engine that suggests content based on selections by colleagues or publishers. E-books can be read on a variety of mobile devices, including iPads, Sony E-readers, Nook, and Android devices.
New features include:
- Embedded links, including to YouTube videos;
- QR codes for students who prefer print books;
- Addition of image files such as GIFs, JPEGs, PNGs, and TIFFs;
- Section dividers using a text editor;
- An updated Active Project portal, which lets professors edit projects, make a book out of projects, and share them with peers; and
- Archiving of e-books.

Those publishers are: Bloomsbury Academic Press, Johns Hopkins University Press, University of North Carolina, Baylor University Press, Cedilla Publishing, Franciscan Institute Press, Island Press, Journal of Korean Studies, Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, MacNeil/Lehrer Productions, Plural Publishing, Pan Stanford Publishing, Rodopi Press, University Press of Mississippi, University of Wales Press, and World Bank.
