Wellesley College Joins edX

Wellesley College has joined edX, the online learning program started in May by Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The private women's institution, the first liberal arts college to participate in edX, will offer four massive open online courses (MOOC), known as WellesleyX, when it launches fall 2013.

"Wellesley is ready to contribute our liberal arts perspective to help shape online education, particularly as colleges work to figure out how to bring the small classroom experience to the online learning landscape," said H. Kim Bottomly, president of Wellesley College, in a statement released today by edX. "This is a grand experiment, and what we learn will benefit Wellesley students as well as students all over the world."

The courses, taught by Wellesley faculty, will be offered at no charge to any students with access to an Internet connection. Wellesley joins MIT, Harvard, Berkeley, and the University of Texas system in this initiative.

Additional information is located at edX's Web site.
