Top Hat Monocle, Pearson Sign Distribution Agreement

Toronto-based Top Hat Monocle, provider of an interactive learning application tool that replaces traditional classroom clickers, has signed a distribution agreement with Pearson. The initial rollout will give students the option to receive a discounted package subscription to Top Hat Monocle when purchasing participating Pearson textbooks.

For $20 per semester for an unlimited number of courses, or $38 for a five-year subscription, college students can access Top Hat Monocle's service, which lets them use their mobile devices to respond in real time to professor-developed questions and polls, run interactive demonstrations, download course notes, and submit homework.

In addition to the subscription agreement, Pearson's higher education content will be integrated into the Top Hat Monocle platform, and beginning in the fall of 2013 select high-demand titles will become available. Pre-built course materials from Top Hat Monocle, including clicker questions, polling, and other textbook content for individual Pearson titles will be ready for instructors to use in the classroom.

"Many college and university instructors have told us they want a closer connection between Top Hat Monocle and the Pearson materials they work from," said Mike Silagadze, co-founder and chief executive officer of Top Hat Monocle, in a prepared statement. "This partnership will allow our two companies to deepen that connection. Soon, many more professors, academic departments, and entire institutions will be able to take greater advantage of the combined teaching capabilities of Pearson and Top Hat Monocle."
