Video Capture Platform Gets Enhanced Integration with Canvas LMS

Video capture and management provider Panopto has enhanced its integration with Instructure's Canvas learning management system with the intent of enhancing ease-of-use for students, teachers, and IT administrators who use video capture and streaming.

Rather than the uploading Panopto-recorded lectures and other videos into Canvas, as was previously the case, users will now have the ability to launch Panopto video capture software from within the Canvas platform.

On-demand video playback and live streaming video are also integrated into Canvas as part of the expansion, allowing student access to these course assets from within the LMS. Live and on-demand video is also available to students using the Panopto app for iOS or from any browser-enabled device.

"Technology should simplify and enhance the learning experience," said Eric Burns, cofounder and chief product officer of Panopto, in a release. "We're providing institutions with the easiest path to connecting their lecture capture and learning management systems."

For IT administrators, the expanded integration means that captured lectures and supplementary video content can be assigned to any and all relevant courses within the LMS "with one mouse click," according to a Panopto release, as well as the introduction of single sign-on capability between the two systems.

"Panopto is the only product that allows us to connect our lecture videos with all of our Canvas courses at once," said Brent Saltzman, Division of Information Technology at Creighton University.  "As a result, my team will save time and effort that would otherwise be spent manually integrating courses one at a time."

The Panopto-Canvas integration is available free to customers in Panopto 4.4. Additional details can be found on Panopto's education portal.
