U Virginia Adds 50 GB Cloud Storage for Students, Faculty, Staff
The University of Virginia (UVa) has adopted a new storage service for use by faculty, staff, and degree-seeking students.
The university has partnered with Box, and will begin providing 50 GB of free space per user for "files with non-sensitive or moderately sensitive data," according to a school news release.
Features of the deployment, dubbed UVa Box, include:
- Access via PC, smartphone, or tablet;
- The ability to share and collaborate with others, both inside and outside the UVa community;
- Automatic syncing;
- The ability to add comments;
- Customizable permissions;
- Version history;
- Online editing;
- Granular security and sharing controls; and
- Integration with UVa's single sign-on service, UVa NetBadge.
Box is part of Internet2's Net+ Services program and is in use at Cornell, Yale, Georgetown, and Notre Dame, among others.
