Indiana U Deploys Videoconferencing Platform to Boost Distance Learning
Indiana University (IU) is deploying a new videoconferencing solution across its eight campuses, starting spring 2014. The platform will support the institution's growing distance learning programs. IU delivers roughly 176 courses, via videoconference, each semester, according to a prepared statement.
IU is adopting Infinity, a web conferencing service from Pexip. The solution integrates with the existing infrastructure and supports the institution's goal of expanding capacity for online learning and digital collaboration, said James McGookey, manager of IU Collaboration Technologies.
"As we add capacity, we simply bring up more virtual servers and nodes," explained McGookey. "This lets us offer distance education courses to even more students and make teaching easier for faculty. For example, let’s say a professor wants to have a presenter speak remotely to a class from overseas -- Infinity provides easy connections for the user while outputting high-quality video."
Systems integrator SKC Communications, based in Shawnee, KS, will assist on the project.
IU is a public research institution serving more than 135,000 students, faculty and staff across eight campuses.
