Fidelis Debuts Personalized Learning Platform

A new online learning platform aims to put the student in the driver's seat of his or her own education.

Fidelis has debuted its Software as a Service (SaaS) learning platform. The platform includes online course delivery along with "traditional coursework, mentorship, coaching, micro-credentialing through digital badges, and job placement," according to the company.

Fidelis is designed to help students create and achieve their personal learning goals. When a student joins the program, he or she is assigned a learning coach. The coach will act as a guide throughout the process. Once the coach is in place, the student assembles a personal advisory board – individuals from schools, companies and clubs who will act as mentors for the student throughout his or her program.

Next, the student designs a personalized learning plan. The plan includes courses delivered through the platform as well as by other learning management systems. The student can add custom goals and milestones to the plan, to aid in moving him through the program.

The system includes a portfolio tool. The portfolio, designed to help match the student to prospective employers, is where the student will store credentials that he or she earns throughout the program. These include macro-credentials, such as degrees and certificates, as well as micro-credentials, in the form of badges that demonstrate mastery of a specific subject, skill or aptitude.

Fidelis also comes with a learning relationship management tool, designed for individuals managing the student's portfolio. The tool can be customized to suit individual programs.

"We have spent nearly two years laying the technical ground work and testing the platform," said Gunnar Counselman, chief executive officer at Fidelis, in the prepared statement. "After conducting pilots with schools like UCLA, Arizona State University, University of Texas, and University of Florida, our focus shifted from a partnership model to a licensing platform that can be made available to all students."

Additional information about the platform can be found online.
