University of Utah Aims to Boost Research Efforts with Data Analytics System

The College of Pharmacy at the University of Utah is adopting a new data analytics system in an effort to enhance the research efforts of its Pharmacotherapy Outcomes Research Center (PORC). The school will employ Distributed Analytics by healthcare solutions provider Inovalon.

PORC will use Distributed Analytics to perform advanced data mining, queries and analyses. The solution includes access to Inovalon's Medical Outcomes Research for Effectiveness and Economic Registry (MORE2) Registry, a data warehouse of healthcare data.

Access to the healthcare data superset will be key to the university's research initiatives, according to Diana Brixner, executive director of PORC.

"Our goal is to improve patient care by conducting outcomes research studies and disseminating study results to patients, providers and healthcare decision-makers," said Brixner, in a prepared statement. "The integration of Inovalon's innovative data analytics solutions furthers this goal by enabling our researchers to conduct meaningful studies in a fraction of the time it took historically."
