Vivantech Launches Cloud Platform for Kuali-Based Software

Vivantech, a provider of open source software consulting and development for higher education, has launched the first two modules of Ekualiti, a cloud platform for Vivantech's Kuali-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.

Ekualiti is based on the open-source Kuali software with an open data format and built on the Amazon AWS cloud platform. According to the company, it's cost-effective for small and medium-sized universities that may not be able to afford commercial ERP systems, and it "eliminates the licensing fees, annual maintenance fees and restrictive vendor lock-in typical of proprietary software."

Ekualiti modules can be deployed with existing on-premise or software-as-a-service (SaaS) ERP applications, and Randy Ozden, Vivantech's president and CEO, thinks even large universities may consider Ekualiti as they migrate business systems to the cloud. Educational institutions that adopt multiple Ekualiti modules may also appreciate the consistent user interface between modules.

Ekualiti modules that are available now include:

  • Ekualiti Rice business process automation and workflow with a graphical front-end; and
  • Ekualiti KC (Kuali Coeus) research and grant administration system.

Ekualiti modules in development include:

  • Ekualiti KHR (Kuali HR and Payroll) time and attendance system (coming in 2014);
  • Ekualiti KFS (Kuali Financial System) financial system (coming in 2014);
  • Ekualiti KS (Kuali Student) student information system (release date to be announced); and
  • Ekualiti OLE (Kuali Open Library Environment) (release date to be announced).

The company is offering a private Ekualiti trial through its 1ClickLaunch platform.

Further information about Ekualiti can be found on Vivantech's site.
