Buffalo State Outsources ResNet

Multiple institutions that are part of the State University of New York System are choosing to outsource the build out of wireless connectivity in their residence dorms. SUNY Buffalo State, with nearly 11,000 students, just announced that it would be working with Apogee, a company that specifically manages campus residential networks.

Starting this fall, dorm residents will have access to 15 megabit-per-second download Wi-Fi in their rooms and community spaces for up to five devices. Users with "heavier" needs will be able to purchase additional bandwidth; 30 Mbps download speed and connectivity for up to 10 devices will be $59 per semester. Students will register their devices through MyResNet.com using their Buffalo State email addresses.

"The student resident is at the heart of all we do," said Director of Housing, Kris Kaufman. "Keeping in mind our top priority to ensure student satisfaction and retention, we conducted a comprehensive review of many options. We ultimately chose Apogee because it is the unequivocal ResNet leader. The install was fantastic and seamless. Within a short summer, Buffalo State has a fully-deployed solution, was able to roll out comprehensive Wi-Fi and provide 24/7 support by chat, text, email and phone."

The company has also managed residential networks for San Francisco State University, Southwestern University in Texas and Birmingham-Southern College in Alabama.
