U Delaware To Adopt Contactless ID Cards

The University of Delaware will issue new ID cards to students for an initiative dubbed "contactless" in an effort to improve security and reliability of campus access systems.
The new cards, which include a chip that allows users to wave them near a reading device instead of sliding them through a slot, will be adopted following a pilot program in the university's Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Laboratory (ISE Lab).
The ONEcard, as it's being called, will replace the outgoing ID cards and will include a magnetic strip in addition to the chip to allow access to facilities that have not yet been upgraded. New cards will automatically grant the same access and privileges the old cards did.
The University of Delaware serves more than 17,000 undergraduates, 3,600 graduates and almost 800 professional and continuing studies students. More information is available at udel.edu.
