Syracuse Launches Online Master's in Communication

Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications has launched a new online master's degree focused on digital trends and communications industry innovations.

Communications@Syracuse, as the course is called, will offer an online platform, in-person immersion experiences and a curriculum designed to address a changing media environment.

Communications@Syracuse is built on 2U's software-as-a-service online learning platform "and features collaborative, live online classes during which students build meaningful relationships with peers and faculty in a small-class-size, face-to-face online setting," according to a news release. "The program also includes interactive coursework and in-person learning experiences where students and faculty have the opportunity to meet and network."

Three specializations, advertising, journalism and public relations, will require foundational courses such as "Digital Communications Systems," Multimedia Storytelling" and "Social Media."

The school is currently accepting applications for the program through May 8, with classes set to begin in July. New cohorts will begin every three months thereafter.

"The Communications@Syracuse program prepares students with the knowledge and skills to be successful in an industry that continues to change rapidly," said Anthony Rotolo, program director of Communications@Syracuse, in a prepared statement. "With a blend of online and in-person learning experiences, this program mirrors the way communication happens today and enables the school to expand its reach beyond the physical campus."
