Cengage Partners with Knewton On Personalized Learning

Cengage Learning has integrated adaptive learning tools from Knewton into its MindTap personalized teaching solution in an effort to improve outcomes and encourage deeper learning among management and sociology students.

"As students work in MindTap, Knewton figures out exactly what each individual knows, then provides real-time personalized recommendations for what to study next," according to a news release. "Knewton's recommendations improve over time as it learns more about each student's strengths, weaknesses and learning strategies."

Personalized activities will then be available via a "study center" in the MindTap interface, allowing students to use the center to focus on course concepts most liely to prepare them for assessments.

"We are delighted to build upon our relationship with Knewton. Their technology provides students with feedback and personalized study plans based on actual assigned coursework, which was particularly important for the studies of management and sociology," said Jim Donohue, chief product officer at Cengage Learning, in a prepared statement. "As we at Cengage Learning are operating with a renewed and heightened focus on the needs of our student end users, this product directly addressed a question we often hear from students, 'What do I already know and what do I need to work on?' The technology not only identifies areas of weakness, but it also recommends the content that will help generate the best student performance — resulting in a better user experience for students and ultimately producing better learning outcomes."
