Report: Oregon Higher Ed Funding To Focus on Student Outcomes
Oregon's Higher Education Coordinating
Commission has adopted a new funding model that will emphasize student outcomes rather than institutional enrollment numbers, according to
a
report in the Statesman Journal.
Set for implementation over four years, the new model will begin to take effect in the current two-year budget period. The plan includes
caps on year-to-year changes for the duration of the implementation period.
The planned changes will only affect the state's seven public universities, with a separate plan under discussion for community colleges.
"Because of relatively robust data systems, we can look at long-term employment outcomes of students in Oregon," Brian Fox, the
commission's team lead and administrator of public university budget and finance, told the Statesman Journal. "Is that the measure? No, it's a
measure ... Academic quality and long-term success of students is what this is focused on."
