Modular Fiber Interface for Camera Systems Suits Legacy Locations

The Bluebell Opticom TDM750 uses multicore fiber rather than copper cabling, enabling the physical distance between cameras and the engineering control room to be longer.A United Kingdom-based company has launched a new interface specifically for delivering fiber connectivity to compact and remote high-definition pan/tilt cameras in locations where updating cabling is difficult. The Bluebell Opticom TDM750 is a stand-alone or rack-mounted module for transporting high-definition serial digital interface (HD-SDI) and Fast Ethernet signals. The unit is intended for use in broadcast and security applications.

According to the company, because the device uses multicore fiber rather than copper cabling, the physical distance between cameras and the engineering control room can be longer.

"This capability is a distinct advantage in older buildings or buildings with limited access," said Managing Director Paul McCann in a prepared statement.

The self-contained module can connect multiple cameras from one or several locations. The interface is expected to be released in the third quarter of this year.
