Wiley To Use Credly Digital Badges

Two companies that serve higher education are teaming up to mesh learning resources with digital credentials. Wiley & Sons, which offers curriculum and learning technology, is working with Credly, a digital badging service provider. The overall goal of the partnership will be to validate the skills and competencies students gain as they progress through Wiley's learning products.

Digital credentials are visible representations (often icons) that designate the skills and knowledge for which a person has proven mastery. Those badges can be used to communicate an individual's levels of achievement online, in resumes and social media profiles, and to help them make the transition between school and work and to progress through their careers.

The use of the credentials will also play into Wiley's efforts to identify talent deficits and address skill gaps in the workforce as part of product development.

"In a new global learning and talent marketplace that values competencies, knowledge and skills, digital credentials will be the currency of choice," said Jeffrey Sugerman, Wiley's executive vice president, in a press release. "Our partnership with Credly puts validated and portable evidence of achievement to work across the education and workforce learning lifecycle we serve, empowering people and organizations to connect talent to opportunity."
