Treehouse Intros Online Coding Degrees

Online coding school Treehouse is introducing a new degree program designed to prepare students for entry-level developer jobs. The Treehouse Techdegree will initially be offered in six topic areas: Front End Web Development; Full Stack JavaScript; iOS; Android; Python; and Java.

According to the company, each Techdegree course is "designed by educational experts and employers to ensure that Treehouse students have the very latest skills and qualifications" for the tech workforce. All learning content is developed in-house, including videos, interactive tools and resources to help students learn new concepts.

Coursework includes 12 real-world coding projects to help students develop a portfolio of their skills. For help, students can use a dedicated Slack channel to communicate with peers and Treehouse staff, as well as receive one-on-one mentorship via video connection.

Treehouse began in 2010, offering subscription-based courses in Front End and Back End Web Development. "In the last 6 years, nearly 600k students have enrolled in our basic subscription courses and Treehouse has become well known for our expert teachers and high-quality videos, content and interactive tools," noted CEO Ryan Carson in a blog post. "Now, with Techdegrees, we'll be offering intensive courses specifically for people who want to make a career out of technology."

On average, Techdegrees take about 6–12 months to complete; pricing starts at $399 per month. For more information, visit the Treehouse site.
