Gale Adds Several New Archives to Digital Newspaper Offerings

The new archives include digital support and are intended to further research in humanities.

Gale, a part of Cengage Learning, announced an expansion of its historical newspaper collections. The global provider of research resources for libraries and businesses launched three new, fully indexed archives that can be used for large-scale digital humanities analysis.

As part of the Gale Primary Sources program, the new digital archives allow researchers to cross-search with other Gale digital archives and analyze results using graphic and search visualization tools.

The digital offerings include:

• The Telegraph Historical Archive, 1855-2000, a 145-year archive of Britain’s best-selling quality newspaper;

• China: From Empire to Republic: Missionary, Sinology, and Literary Periodicals, a collection of 17 English-language periodicals related to China, published around the time the People's Republic of China was founded; and

• British Library Newspapers, Part V: 1746-1950, a comprehensive range of national, regional and local newspapers in Britain between the 18th and 20th centuries.
