Davidson College Students, Grads Can Take Tuition-Free Coding Course

Davidson College has tapped a private partner to help launch a tuition-free online coding program for students and graduates.

Davidson students and graduates will be able to enroll in RevaturePro, Revature's main training program, for free to learn modern software development languages in hopes that it will lead them to careers in coding. The program is self-paced and features 18 courses, from beginning to advanced, with real-world exercises, a mentor and access to certification. RevaturePro features courses on Java, Microsoft.NET and additional front-end development languages.

Once Davidson students and graduates complete the course, they can then enroll in a free 12-week coding boot camp to be held at Revature headquarters in Reston, VA.

The coding boot camps will entail:

  • 12 weeks of immersive, industry-aligned coding curricula from Revature;
  • A weekly living stipend;
  • Professional certification, such as Microsoft and Oracle, paid by Revature; and
  • Guaranteed employment with Revature after successfully completing the program.

The small liberal arts college in Davidson, NC, has just over 1,700 students.

"Davidson College students, due to their broad liberal arts education, are very well-suited to work in software development," said Joe Mitchell, senior vice president of university partnerships at Revature. "They already have the aptitude and the ability. Revature gives them the critical skills and training they require to enter the high-demand field of software coding."

Revature has initiated a similar program with the City University of New York.

    California AI Watermarking Bill Garners OpenAI Support

    ChatGPT creator OpenAI is backing a California bill that would require tech companies to label AI-generated content in the form of a digital "watermark." The proposed legislation, known as the "California Digital Content Provenance Standards" (AB 3211), aims to ensure transparency in digital media by identifying content created through artificial intelligence. This requirement would apply to a broad range of AI-generated material, from harmless memes to deepfakes that could be used to spread misinformation about political candidates.
