Unity Offers Gaming Software Licenses to Universities for Free
Unity Technologies, a game-development platform, is offering free software licenses to qualifying colleges and universities in the United States. Instructors and students can use the game developer tools to create 2D, 3D, virtual reality and augmented reality games — helping students gain art, design, programming, digital literacy and STEM skills in an engaging way.
According to a Unity blog post announcement, the Unity Licence Grant Program launched in March 2015 for primary and secondary institutions, has since put nearly 77,000 free licenses in the hands of more than 300,000 students worldwide. Now, the program has been expanded to qualifying higher education institutions or programs.
“We aim to reduce barriers to entry to an increasingly in-demand skill set and to help catalyze a lifelong journey of supported learning for individuals, beginning with the development of valuable workforce skills, followed by the validation of competencies through examination, and continuing with ongoing professional development over the course of their career,” according to the post.
