Pearson Inks First Deal with Chegg for Textbook Rental Pilot

Pearson Education has partnered with Chegg, calling the deal part of its ongoing commitment to making college more accessible and affordable for students. Beginning this fall, approximately 50 editions of popular Pearson higher education titles will be available via a “rental-only” model through Chegg, offering savings of up to 60 percent. Titles consigned to Chegg will be under $100 and available as both electronic and print versions.

This past January, Pearson pledged to reduce the cost of courseware by taking a two-step approach. First, the company immediately reduced the prices of 2,000 e-book titles by up to 50 percent. Second, Pearson plans to partner with trusted retailers, like Chegg, to enable students to rent popular print titles.

The company “anticipates expanding the titles included in [the Chegg] program over time,” according to the announcement.
