Entry-Level NEC Projectors Deliver 15,000 Hours of Lamp Life

NEC Display Solutions has introduced two new lines of projectors intended for education. According to the company, the MC and ME series replace previous entry-level projectors (some of which have since gone on sale). Both sets promise longer lamp life.

The two models in the MC line, which replace projectors in the VE and V series, both offer 1.2x times zoom. The $499 edition has 3,700-lumen brightness and XGA resolution (1,024x768 pixels); the $549 model has 3,800-lumen brightness and WXGA resolution (1,024x800 pixels).

The three models in the ME family, which replace older models in the same series, run from $679 to $899. The 3,700-lumen ME372W model provides 17.7x zoom with WXGA resolution. The ME402X delivers a 4,000-lumen brightness, 1.7x zoom and XGA resolution. The high-end ME382W has a 3,800-lumen brightness, 1.6x zoom and WUXGA resolution (1,920x1,200 pixels).

The new lamps are projected to last up to 15,000 hours in "eco" mode and 10,000 hours at full brightness. For the typical classroom, running six hours per day for 180 days during the year, that translates to a light source lasting for nearly 14 years.

All models include among their features:

• A USB viewer;
• Auto power-on;
• Virtual remote operation;
• A sleep timer; and
• Built-in color correction.

Wireless LAN adapters are an optional purchase.

All of the projectors are expected to be available this month.
