Kaltura Adds Advanced Video Analytics

videos with abstract technology background

Video technology provider Kaltura has introduced new analytics capabilities for its video platform, including granular data on viewing, engagement and creation. For example, data such as whether a video was viewed in full screen, whether the viewer focused on slides or the speaker, and what language was selected for captions are all available to provide insight into each viewer's experience and needs.

Features of Kaltura Analytics include:

  • User-level reports, allowing administrators to review who watches and contributes which videos, with heat maps that show which content users found the most interesting;
  • Viewing funnel, a chart showing the progression of user engagement for each video;
  • Time period comparison, for identifying seasonality and trends over time;
  • Technology and geo-location reports, providing data on users' platforms (desktop, mobile, game-console, etc.), operating systems, browsers and geographic location;
  • Usage reports, for monitoring storage and bandwidth; and
  • Live to on-demand analytics, allowing administrators to monitor live events in real time as well as compare historical data.

Kaltura Analytics complies with IMS Global Caliper and xAPI open standards, so it can be integrated with other campus systems such as business intelligence, constituent relationship management, learning management, grading and other analytics systems. All reports and dashboards can also be exported for distribution to campus stakeholders. Going forward, the company is developing AI, machine learning and predictive analytics tools to provide additional data insights.
