OpenStax Expands OER Content Within Tutor Platform

Rice University's OpenStax has added additional titles from its line of open education resources to its tutoring application, along with new functionality.

OpenStax Tutor is an online reading and homework platform intended to engage students in their studies. The program is available for $10 per semester per student to students whose faculty have assigned the use of the platform to them. (Once the semester is over, students will always be able to access the textbook content on the organization's website.)

The new textbook additions are OpenStax's Anatomy and Physiology and Psychology 2e. The organization has also added Entrepreneurship and Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness, a resource for Advanced Placement U.S. History courses.

Now, educators will be able to create and assign homework questions alongside the program's personalized assessments.

"Emergency remote and hybrid schooling brought on by the pandemic have shown just how necessary equity-minded, high-impact educational resources and learning tools are," said Daniel Williamson, managing director of OpenStax, in a statement. "OpenStax was on a growth trajectory before COVID-19 and with demand for our resources increasing each week, our team is hard at work developing new textbooks and tools to help teachers continue to teach and students to learn."
