Audio and video technologies company Marshall Electronics has introduced a sub-$900 pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) video camera that's certified by Zoom. The new CV605-U3 camera can produce video output via USB 3.0, HDMI or IP cabling. It can be set up through a single Ethernet cable carrying video, audio, power (PoE) and control over IP.

According to the company, the CV605-U3 camera works in Zoom room sessions, but also for other forms of videoconferencing and live streaming with OBS Studio or other applications. In addition, the PTZ camera operates with exceptional low-light sensitivity, producing "a clear picture in variable and challenging lighting conditions." The camera also contains a standby mode for privacy between video calls.

Zoom certification is a process Zoom has for hardware, to confirm that it is compatible with Zoom software and meets "higher standards in both audio and video performance," according to the Zoom website.

The camera has a five-time optical zoom and uses a two-megapixel sensor to capture high-definition video. The CV605-U3 delivers up to 1920x1080p resolution at 60 fps. The lens offers an 85-degree horizontal angle-of-view with "minimal distortion" and the ability to reach out to 15mm with additional 10x digital zoom.

"Protecting intellectual properties and proprietary information while not in video meetings or during breaks was the driving force behind adding the standby mode for privacy," said Tod Musgrave, director of cameras for the company, in a press release. "When you add in the crystal-clear video images and multiple connection types, we've really redefined the value proposition at a $899 price point."
