Barix Ships 3-Tier Campus Security Systems

Swiss IP audio technology developer Barix is launching new emergency communications and public safety tools using a "three-tier" approach, comprising various IP-based communications devices. The communications packages are designed specifically for use in multi-building campuses.

According to the company, "Many campuses and transportation centers today are unaware that they already have the necessary backbone for a strong security system. Universities in particular are eager to improve their emergency response systems but are often held back or delayed for budgetary reasons.  The Barix approach to implementing ancillary emergency notification and response over IP, utilizing the existing network infrastructure, is ideal for cost-conscious organizations that need an affordable, high performance system that is quickly and easily implemented."

The three-tier approach ties together paging through off the shelf devices, campus-wide intercoms, and security lockdown using Barix Defconlock access control and management systems. The company said that such a system for a three-building campus with an existing PA system would start at less than $1,200.

Barix CEO Andy Stadheim will present more information at the upcoming Consortium of College and University Media Centers conference (CCUMC) to be held Oct. 18 to 22 in Florida.
