Mohawk College Student Center Gets New Digital Signage System

The Student Association at Mohawk College in Ontario has picked up the bill to deploy a digital signage system in its student center. The new system from Scala Canada will help keep students current on campus news and services, deliver emergency alerts, and replace the posters that previously took up wall space in the center.

Scala reseller Gorrie Marketing Services compiled and deployed the system, which includes Scala 5 and Designer software, Samsung LCD displays, network installation, content design consultation, and staff training on how to manage the network and its content. Scala 5 provides components for doing sign design, content management, ad management, and delivery of content to the displays.

The installation has 26 32-inch to 60-inch LCD displays and 12 channels of content. The displays have been installed in high traffic areas in the student center, including the main entrance, reception area, and specific hallways, as well as in the coffee shop, two takeout restaurants, and a market. The largest display is installed in The Arnie, a student pub. There nine 46-inch displays form a giant video wall at the entrance. Inside the pub an additional four 46-inch screens show whatever has been streamed with the dedicated Arnie media channel.

"The combination of GMS and Scala software has helped us create a digital signage network to communicate and wow students," said Steve Kosh, the marketing and communications manager for the student association. "Our new system makes the messages stand out and be fun so they stick with busy students, covering campus activities, social events like upcoming concerts and movie nights, community news, and administrative facts."
