UTS Business School Selects ERP for MBA Program

The University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) plans to incorporate a cloud-based business management program into its MBA curriculum.

In an effort to help students and teaching staff garner practical skills in cloud computing, the UTS business school plans to introduce NetSuite's SuiteAcademy enterprise resource planning (ERP) program into its postgraduate MBA program.

Designed for students pursuing MBA and Master of Business in Operations and Supply Chain Management degrees, SuiteAcademy, which also provides learning across core disciplines built into NetSuite's single business management suite, is Introduced in the third or fourth year of the program to help students understand business accounting and supply chain management in a cloud computing environment.

"UTS is in the process of reinventing business education," said Professor Roy Green, dean of UTS Business School, in a prepared statement. "We're shifting away from the traditional approach of pushing students down specialist career paths, to creating graduates capable of boundary-crossing beyond specializations--which is what's required of today's business leaders.

"Our partnership with NetSuite is about producing work-ready graduates for a market rapidly embracing cloud computing," Green added. "Given [that] cloud software automates many traditional professional functions, our graduates need to be lateral thinkers capable of adding value to organizations in new ways."

Key accounting and supply chain management instructional modules include:

• Fixed asset management;
• Financial reporting and Analytics;
• Payment management;
• Order-to-cash and procure-to-pay workflows;
• Warehouse and inventory control;
• Purchasing and vendor management;
• Manufacturing processes; and
• Demand planning.

Part of the Australian Technology Network of Universities, the University of Technology, Sydney was ranked in the top 100 in the 2011 QS World University Rankings for economics, accounting, and finance. The business school is one of the largest in Australia housing more than 10,000 full-time students. UTS serves nearly 36,000 students total and has an operating budget of approximately $180.9 million.
