U Minnesota Athletics Updates Control Room
The University of Minnesota upgraded the control room of its football stadium and sports arenas with new HD equipment. The new systems allow producers to broadcast video and slow motion replay to the LED scoreboards and displays at each venue.
The institution has adopted two Zeplay systems, multi-channel instant replay solutions from Tightrope Media Systems. The systems, which deliver 16 channels of live replay, enable the production team to create sequences and load and export clips. Operators can view play from several angles, on a single display, with the systems' built-in multiviewer.
"We have anywhere from five to eight cameras that we want to record on any given game day," said Tadd Wilson, scoreboard and video operations manager for the school's athletic program, in a prepared statement. "We also interface with the TV trucks on-location, adding another four to seven cameras. The ability to record as many channels as possible was a top priority."
The Zeplays include tagging and key play marking features that allow operators to create highlight packages and player profiles from archived footage. The files, which are digitally exported to the school's archives, can be "recalled and played out as high-quality 4:2:2 HD files."
