Fresno State To Expand Tablet Initiative with $50,000 Grant
California State University, Fresno will expand its DISCOVERe tablet program with the help of a $50,000 grant.
Launched in August with 1,200 students and 33 faculty members, the DSICOVERe program treats tablets as primary learning and teaching tools with courses adjusted to make them more tablet-compatible. As part of the program, many participating students are eligible for free tablets though a university package that also includes a one-year 4G LTE data plan for free through AT&T. The planned expansion will increase the number of participating students to 5,000.
The grant, also from AT&T, will help provide student training and support for students with disabilities.
"The DISCOVERe program is transforming the way our students learn and the way our faculty teach," said Joseph Castro president at Fresno State, in a prepared statement. "As our students prepare for careers that are increasingly dependent on technology, it is critical that they have access to technology in the classroom. The University appreciates AT&T's commitment to supporting our students and helping to provide them with tools they need to succeed."
