Casio Launches New Lampless Projector

Casio has unveiled a new lampless projector it says will reduce the cost of use to educators.

The EcoLite XJ-V1, which will be available in the second quarter of this year, has a 20,000-hour estimated lifespan with only minimal brightness degradation.

According to Casio representatives, the XJ-V1 provides 30 percent more LED light output — offering a greater increase in color spectrum than traditional mercury lamps — all while using only half the energy per unit of traditional lamp-based projectors. Power consumption, even with the brightest setting, is only 180 watts and, when the brightest settings are not used, power consumption can drop by as much as 50 percent.

Naturally, the lamp-less projector, based on Casio's laser and LED hybrid light source technology, eliminates the need to replace expensive and hazardous mercury lamps.

Other features offered by the EcoLite XJ-V1:

• A throw ratio of 1.54-1.7 to 1;
• 2,700 lumens of brightness;
• 1,024 X 768 (XGA) resolution;
• Along with inputs for RGB and HDMI, a variable audio output for external audio; and
• A standard three-year parts and labor warranty and a five-year/10,000-hour warranty on the LED light source technology.

"The new EcoLite model combines Casio's lamp-free technology with features from our most popular projectors into a unit that still delivers functionality and low total cost of ownership," said Joe Gillio, product management director of Casio's business projector division.

Casio's introduction of the EcoLite model coincided with FETC, the educational technology conference and tradeshow held January 20-23 in Orlando.
