Eastern Kentucky U Launches Online Criminal Justice Master's Program

Beginning with its spring 2016 semester, Eastern Kentucky University will offer an online master's degree program in justice, policy and leadership.

While the Richmond, KY-based university has offered the master's degree program for more than 30 years on campus, this will be the first time distance learners can take advantage of the program that has a criminal justice core and allows students the opportunity to concentrate in policing, corrections or juvenile justice.

"A primary goal of the program is to develop leadership, communication and critical thinking skills to improve administrative effectiveness," said Pete Kraska, professor and chair of graduate students in the School of Justice Studies.

Eastern Kentucky already offers more than 30 online undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a wide variety of subject areas.

All courses are taught by full-time, tenured and tenure-track professors. Each student will have a personal advisor who will help him or her prepare a customized graduation plan.

With courses beginning every eight weeks, there is the opportunity to work through the program at an accelerated pace.

"Our goal is to offer students a top-quality education in an online format," Kraska said.
