Mount Vernon Nazarene U Expands Online Programs
Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Ohio
has added a number of online general education courses intended to make it easier
for non-traditional students to complete their degrees.
The university already offers a number of fully online degrees, including
degrees in business administration, early childhood education and public safety
administration. However, Mount Vernon wanted to make it easier for more of its
adult learners, who may be balancing education with work and family
commitments, to complete their degrees.
To help the university achieve this goal, it partnered with StraighterLine, an independent
provider of low-cost, online general education courses. With this partnership,
Mount Vernon students will have the option of taking some of their general
education courses online through StraighterLine and transferring the credit to
Mount Vernon. According to information on StraighterLine's site, students pay a
membership fee of $99 per month plus a course fee, which is typically $49 per
course.
StraighterLine offers more than 50 online courses with "a guaranteed credit
pathway to Mount Vernon Nazarene University," including courses in subjects
such as accounting, biology, business, calculus, chemistry, communication,
Spanish, management, economics and history.
"Through this partnership our non-traditional students have the
ability to further accelerate their learning path toward degree completion,"
said Dean Goon, director of innovative education at MVNU, in a prepared
statement. "This is just one more way that MVNU seeks to assist its GPS
[graduate and professional studies] students in their pursuit of a quality
educational experience."

University and StraighterLine can be found on StraighterLine's
