Gale Content Now Available Via Google, Google Scholar

Gale's library resources are now searchable by way of Google and Google Scholar.

Gale, a division of Cengage Learning that typically markets materials for academic and public libraries, has completed indexing its work with Google, meaning that users can use one of the two well-known search engines to find content that Gale or one of its partner institutions has.

Users can begin their research in Google Scholar — a free search engine designed to help users find scholarly sources — or Google. If they find content they are interested in, they can be taken to the full text of the article (if they are users of a library that subscribes to Gale). If not, they will be taken to an abstract of the article that will include information on how to access the article through their institution or local library.

"We know researchers begin searching in Google before they are ready to delve into their library's resources," said Gale Senior Vice President and General Manager Paul Gazzolo. "With this collaboration, we're making it easier for them to quickly and easily connect with quality content."

Gale has also integrated Google Apps for Education (Gmail, Classroom, Drive and Docs) with many of its products, making it easier for schools to take advantage of Gale content in the classroom.

"This is only one step in our approach to improving discovery," Gazzolo added. "We've also increased our work with library discovery services, and have initiatives underway to put library resources on the student path."
