Colorado State U Launches Online 'Boot Camp' Style Comp Sci Programs
Colorado State University-Global Campus (CSU-Global) has introduced a new online certificate of completion and degree specialization program in computer programming.
The
boot camp-style program, which launched in March 2016, is geared toward
computer programming novices and is designed to bridge "the gap between
non-accredited accelerators and traditional semester-long programs,"
according to a news release from the university.
The program
consists of five 8-week courses including three programming courses,
one course in data structures and algorithms and one course in
platform-based development. Students who complete the program will know
how to "design a simple Web and mobile app, and have mastered basic
software development," according to CSU-Global. The program is aligned
with topics from Oracle's associate and professional-level Java SE 7 Programmer certification exams.
Students
can complete the certificate of completion as a standalone program, and
students who are working towards a Bachelor of Science in Information
Technology at CSU-Global can take the program as an area of
specialization within their degree.
According to Jon Bellum,
executive vice president and provost of CSU-Global, Colorado will need
an estimated 8,000 software developers by 2022, and CSU-Global created
this program to help meet that need.
