Syracuse Taps Private Partner for Blended Juris Doctor Degree
Syracuse University's College of Law has teamed with a private partner to develop a hybrid juris doctor (J.D.) degree program.
The new program will feature live, online, face-to-face classes and course content delivered through 2U's online learning platform. School faculty will create coursework using the company's Bidirectional Learning Tool, which is designed to allow instructors to use a variety of teaching methods. In addition to online courses, the program will require students to take a number of classes on campus and will feature applied learning experiences such as externships.
"This hybrid program will continue our tradition of innovation and excellence in legal education," said William Banks, interim dean of Syracuse Law, in a prepared statement. "We believe that an outstanding legal education should be as dynamic as the law itself. That's why Syracuse Law has chosen to partner with 2U to develop a hybrid J.D. degree program developed by our nationally and internationally known faculty that will help us expand upon our mission to provide modern legal training for tomorrow's lawyers and leaders, including those who cannot easily attend a fully residential program."
