Edward Waters College Gets Out of the Network Management Business

IT staffers at Edward Waters College in Florida are no longer burdened with managing the institution's wired and wireless networks. The small private college is outsourcing the task to ADTRAN, whose ProCloud Plus cloud-management service will provide high-speed broadband connectivity across the entire campus.

ProCloud Plus will give the college the scalable network infrastructure it needs to support the use of e-books in class, advanced e-learning tools, BYOD and more. The managed service "ensures network continuity while also providing alert monitoring, full system management and a 24-hour help desk that users call should an issue arise," according to a company statement. To ensure reliable access to the network, the college has also installed new Ethernet switches and wireless access points campuswide.

"Prior to ADTRAN, we managed our network in-house and soon found we could not handle the daily demand we experienced because of the growing amount of devices and traffic on our network," said Randolph Mitchell, VP of business and finance at the college, in a press release. With ADTRAN, he said, "We are able to provide 24/7, 365-day coverage everywhere on campus, outsource our network monitoring and have our IT team focus on managing our hardware, all while reducing our costs significantly."
