DePaul Wrangling Faculty Processes with Interfolio

A Chicago-based school is implementing an application intended for managing faculty affairs. DePaul University adopted Interfolio to merge faculty affairs processes under a single system designed to support the lifecycle of faculty careers, including hiring, promotion and tenure and accreditation reporting.

According to administrators, the institution wanted to bring its disparate faculty processes onto a unified information system that would be usable by academic users and that could automate some of the more "nuanced" activities, such as dealing with confidential letters and shared governance. The university also wanted more and better ways to gather validated information about the scholarly activity of faculty in advance of accreditation milestones.

Last month, the company reported, DePaul convened a group of peer institutions for a one-day workshop on using Interfolio to manage faculty information and to drive best practices around faculty affairs, particularly in the areas of diversity and inclusive hiring, as well as collaboration in the research process and helping faculty to prioritize strategic activities such as research, teaching, service and other professional matters.

"The opportunity to provide a cohesive and responsive faculty solution set will yield both short- and long-term dividends," said Alyssa Kupka, chief of staff and senior associate vice president of Academic Affairs, in a statement.
