Online Discussion Platform Adds Originality Checker
Ed tech company 42 Lines is incorporating anti-plagiarism screening into its Harmonize online discussion platform through a partnership with Turnitin. Harmonize will now integrate with Turnitin Similarity, allowing instructors to check students' work and discussion posts against Turnitin's database of internet, academic and student paper content and flag any text similarities.
Harmonize provides a social media-style discussion platform where students can converse one-on-one with instructors or participate in group asynchronous discussions and live chats, as well as share and annotate images and video. Students can use the platform across multiple devices (mobile as well as desktop), and their work is automatically saved as they go. Instructors can access data on student participation to assess course progress and engagement.
"Turnitin is thrilled to partner with 42 Lines on the Harmonize platform," said Aaron Yaverski, vice president of partnerships at Turnitin, in a statement. "This partnership will allow instructors and institutions to validate student work within the Harmonize discussion board, encouraging authentic submissions and upholding the institution's commitment to academic integrity."
