Serious Games Competition Opens to Education

The annual Serious Games Showcase & Challenge, which has traditionally focuses on military applications for gaming technologies, this year is expanding its scope to include education technology.

Sponsored by the Interservice/Industry Training Simulation & Education Conference (I/ITSEC), the Serious Games Showcase & Challenge looks for game submissions that solve a problem or deficiency, provide feedback to users on their progress, and use a reward system. Entrants will be judged on innovative solutions for training problems that "mpact people and systems today and in the future." The organization said that entries will be judged by representatives from the gaming industry, academic institutions, the military, and various other organizations.

Summaries for game concepts are due May 31. The games themselves are due Aug. 31. Finalists will be notified Sept. 30. Winners will be announced at the Interservice/Industry Training Simulation & Education Conference, which will be held November 26-29 in Orlando, FL. Finalists will also be showcased at the event.
