Bryant U Rolls Out NAC-Based Emergency Notification System

Bryant University in Smithfield, RI is expanding its emergency notification system for students, staff, and faculty. The university has adapted its Campus Manager NAC solution to provide alerts to its campus population through the system's messaging capability. The NAC-based solution is a supplement to the university's existing notification system, which includes voice and e-mail alerts.

Campus Manager, from Bradford Networks, provides a Web-based admin console through which the university's safety department can send text messages to all users or select users, who receive the alerts in pop-up windows on their screens. The messages are displayed in the front window on users' screens, including those who log in after the message is sent but within a specified time period. Bryant has been using the Campus Manager NAC since 2004 to manage wired and wireless access.

"Public safety is of paramount concern for the university, and our integrated emergency notification system takes advantage of every available channel of communication," said Rich Siedzik, director of networking at Bryant, in a statement released last week. "Our comprehensive approach prepares us to be effective in a wide range of circumstances, from weather closings to more catastrophic circumstances."

In related news, Bryant University and Bradford Networks are presenting a Webinar case study on the NAC-based emergency notification system Nov. 28 at 10 a.m. PST. More information can be found at the links below.

Bryant University serves about 3,200 undergraduates and 400 graduate students on its 420-acre campus in Rhode Island.
