Aurora U Reaches Out to K-12 with HOSTS Mentoring

Aurora University in Illinois has teamed up with HOSTS Learning to provide intervention programs to local middle school students through the HOSTS Mentoring and Intervention solution. Launched in October, the program will run through May 2008 out of Aurora's Institute for Collaboration resource center.

The program will involve about 200 middle school students from East Aurora School District #131 in the Aurora, IL area, who will be mentored in math and language arts by students from Aurora U. They'll be using HOSTS' IntelliPath, an instructional management system. This, according to HOSTS, "will enable classroom teachers and Aurora University tutors alike to easily align the district's current assessment data to the most effective resources in order to create customized learning paths for each student."

"The reputation of HOSTS Learning and the documented successes of the millions of students served by their program over the past 35 years were just a few of the many reasons we asked them to partner with us on this important endeavor," said Sherry Eagle, executive director of the Institute for Collaboration, in a statement released last week. "Helping students in the greater Aurora area excel academically and meet their potential as an individual is a top priority, and we can accomplish it with help from HOSTS Learning and our own university students."

Aurora University is an independent, four-year university serving 2,000 undergraduates and 1,800 graduate students on its main campus in Aurora, IL. It also serves about 4,000 continuing education students through its George Williams College of Aurora University.
