Macworld Expo: Adobe Debuts Photoshop Elements 6 Mac

At the Macworld Conference & Expo, being held this week in San Francisco, Adobe is previewing its forthcoming Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac for the first time to the public.

Photoshop Elements is Adobe's consumer-level photo editing and manipulation tool. Although version 6 has been available for Windows systems since September 2007, this week marks the first time the software has been shown working in Mac OS X, and it will be another two months before the release brings parity between the two OSes.

The new release, schedule to ship in late March, incorporates one feature from Photoshop CS3 and also includes some new creative and organizational features.

On the creative side, Photoshop Elements 6 adds Photomerge technology, carried over from Photoshop CS3. Photomerge allows users to combine elements from multiple photos to create composites quickly. Other new features include:

  • Guided walkthroughs of techniques for achieving the desired results;
  • Step by step guides for creating specific types of content, such as disc labels, cards, and scrapbooks;
  • Customizable designs with themed layouts;
  • Frames, stock backgrounds, and clip art;
  • Support for multi-page projects;
  • Drag and drop support for layouts;
  • Enhanced panorama creation; and
  • New support for importing photos from a digital camera, including support for tagging and renaming images as they're brought from the camera to the computer.

Photoshop Elements 6 is available for preorder now and is expected to be released at the end of March. The full version runs $89.99 (retail), with upgrades starting at $69.99. It supports Mac OS X 10.4.8 and later, including Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. Adobe will be at booth S1302 at the Macworld show. Further information can be found at the links below.
