Saba To Extend Collaboration Platform with Enterprise Social Networking System

Education technology developer Saba this week debuted a new solution it describes as an "enterprise social networking platform." The new system, Saba Social, is designed to extend Saba's collaboration platform and provide a vehicle for delivering and capturing informal, peer-to-peer learning and knowledge exchange.

The new Saba Social is designed to provide real-time collaboration and social networking tools, coupled with a "rich person profile and competency framework," to build communities and accelerate knowledge exchange "to foster innovation and increase productivity," according to the company. The system brings Web 2.0 tools to the enterprise to help drive learning and collaboration, capture informal learning, and provide insight into the contributions of individual users.

Some of the features of Saba Social include:

  • Integration with Saba Centra for Web conferencing and real-time collaboration;
  • Social networking tools, including blogs, wikis, discussion boards, and social connections;
  • Support for ratings, rankings, and tagging;
  • User profiles; and
  • Integration with HR processes.

Saba Social is expected to be available in mid-2009. Further information about Saba Social can be found here.
